Spinlock only discontinue rope holding products when we really have to. Most recently we discontinued the XA handle and side fairings spares for the XA Clutch after supporting the product with spares since the XA product itself was discontinued in 1999. We replaced the XA with the XAS. The XAS has the same footprint and hole centres meaning you can simply replace like-for-like. Spinlock only discontinued the XA spares because the manufacturing tool used for the injection moulding become so worn and is no longer usable and it was not viable to make a new tool.

Small improvements in the sustainability of materials and manufacturing processes add up over the lifetime of a product, especially when multiplied across units produced over many years. We hope customers to invest in quality products that last their full intended lifespan and by supporting the servicing and maintainance of these products removing the need to be frequently replaced.

At Spinlock we’re committed to creating products that have longevity. Lifejackets are certified to have a life of 10 years, this lifespan is mandated by ISO standards and ensures that lifejackets remain effective, safe, and up-to-date with the latest safety regulations throughout their use. Over time, the materials used in lifejackets, such as foam, fabric, and straps, can degrade due to exposure to sunlight (UV rays), saltwater, and general wear and tear. This degradation can reduce the lifejacket’s buoyancy and structural integrity, making it less effective in an emergency.
